The Magic of India

I had to visit my birthplace last month, the lovely city of Bombay (or Mumbai as the recent name change) in India after 6 years and found it so utterly charming. I visited my school, college and local haunts while digging into the local food any chance I got. I swear food in India tastes better than anywhere else.

India makes the most beautiful fabrics and I ended up buying quite a bit which I am going to translate into Kimono-esque Jackets and sweet summery dresses for the shop. I get a bit giddy when I see fabric as my mind is racing to create designs while also taking in the prints all at the same time - I feel like Robert Downey Jr in Iron Man with these holographic images in front of me, matching the swatches and creating my designs right there in the fabric shop ! crazy eh !

So here are just some of the pretty fabrics I picked up in cottons and voiles. Keep an eye out for the new designs as they will be in the shop shortly.

I picked fabrics with a border which will end up as lapels or cuffs and went for pretty bright colors that would just be so right for the coming Summer. My favorite was the parrot green & hot pink one. Which fabric do you like?

A Bohemain Style includes a few staples that can be thrown over your classics to give it that eclectic quotient. Here I have listed 4 KEY pieces to turn your regular outfit into a Bohemain Creation:

1. Velvet is a fabric that is luxurious and rich, and if you can find something in jewel tones that would make it even better. Here is a gorgeous cropped jacket layered over a simple white Tee. Blogger Amanda Malm has totally conquered the Velvet Jacket look in this blog post I did earlier. Velvet says the Seventies like no other!
2. Kimonos are all over the radar right now and if you can get your hands on a longish jacket with contrasting prints and colors, even better. Here are a couple more Kimonos featured on the blog earlier. I love what Rihanna is wearing here - the key is to keep what you are wearing under it very simple e.g. a Tshirt dress, tank and denim cutoffs...you get the idea.
3. White Crochet and Fringe - both in one garment! you couldn't get luckier. Anything with fringe with make you stand out. Its got so much movement that it instantly draws the viewers eye in.
4. Caftans have come back in a big way. And this one here in white lace is absolutely ethereal. Another way to wear a Caftan is to chop it and wear it like a mini dress - totally modernizes the look.

By now everyone and their dog knows I have a weakness for Jackets and that explains why there are so many in my shop. I can't help it - they are such a versatile piece that can be thrown over anything, taking a simple Tee and cutoffs to another height altogether.

Been busy loading new items in the shop. Some amazing jackets in velvet, wool and silk. Jackets would have to be my favorite piece of clothing and probably explains why there are so many in shop. And if I were to narrow down my favorite material it would have to be velvet. Honestly if these jackets fit me I would end up keeping 'em all ! Ultra cool !

Last nite we did the second run of tanks and tees with the dream catcher print. Me thinks it turned out super cool. My daughters certainly love them.

Today I am spending my time designing a series of feathers and arrows which will comprise the third run tomorrow.

So excited about how this is turning out..............the skys the limit!

My first set of Tshirts have been loaded in the shop - woohoo !!
Thats my husband monitoring the exposure - he helped with all the technicalities which is pretty much everything. Eventually I will learn to do this on my own but for now I am totally going to use him. The first design I picked was this bull skull - I am obsessed with skulls right now. Today we are working on a dream catcher design. I love how the Tees have turned out - they are so cool ! what do you think??
