Photoshoot with Coach, my four legged model

These are just some of the pics we shot for my website launch and I thought of including Coach (our mixed pug) in some of the shots. He is such a poser and such a looker too, don't you agree? We finally ended up using the first pic - you can see it on my ABOUT page on the website.

Coach keeps me company all day and he will patiently wait for me to finish and play with him. Honestly I could ask for no better co-worker.

Always trying to plant a wet one on me

The love is mutual !!

Colston Julian Captures Pallavi Singh for Harper’s Bazaar India

Why am I posting this article?
Because the photographer of this amazing photoshoot is Colston Julian who is from my town Bandra, a small suburb in Mumbai (previously know as Bombay).......and to see his work in so many international magazines is pretty awesome.

All pics from Fashion Gone Rogue

Bazaar Goes to Calcutta – The January-February issue of Harper’s Bazaar India enlists Colston Julian for a fashion spread photographed in Calcutta. Model Pallavi Singh poses in the dreamy colors and rich fabrics selected by fashion editor Krishna Mukhi. The backdrop of local sights creates a high impact effect in the chromatic images. / Hair and makeup by Kritika Gill.

New Year's Resolution 2014

That time of the year when resolutions are being made and I've been thinking of a couple for myself. Next year I want to put more effort in to growing Sparrow Lyn, make more art, lose 10 kgs to get to my BMI and the list goes on..........

Something I read on Austin Kleon's blog:

Here’s Richard Walker in Twenty-Four Hours A Day:
Anyone can fight the battles of just one day. It is only when you and I add the battles of those two awful eternities, yesterday and tomorrow, that we break down. It is not the experience of today that drives us mad. It is the remorse or bitterness for something that happened yesterday or the dread of what tomorrow may bring. Let us therefore do our best to live but one day at a time.
Austin says to break it down into something smaller you can manage......A DAILY GOAL, something you can get to early morning or late at night, carve time out in a 24 hour day for that one thing. I think I can do that.......it sounds more manageable and I am going to use his 'X' daily calendar to help me, and so my New Year's Resolution is:

something small, every day

If you are someone who is pulled in many different directions, this article will give you some clarity. You can read the rest of the article here.

More Glam Wrapping

Some more of my prezzies GLAM WRAPPED ! So absolutely enjoyed gift wrapping at this time of the year. I do have a hard time wrapping anything that doesn't come in a box though, so I was stumped when it came to the cylindrical shapes. Some I wrapped as bonbons and some trimmed with ball ribbon.....they turned out alright. When the recepients say, "I don't want to open it as its too pretty to spoil" then I know I got it right !

Just a minute in................December 2013

Some of my favorite bloggers like Kelly Smith and Daydream Lily were doing a post on moments in their current month and I thought this was a nice way to share what is happening in my life. So here goes.......

Reading..........Austin Kleon's 'Steal like an Artist' (for the second time round in 4 days), Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook by Gary Vaynerchuk, Fashioning Reality by Ben Barry - does anyone else read multiple books simultaneously??
Listening..............Bastille, Imagine Dragons, One Republic
Watching..........The Desolation of Smaug, Homeland, Game of Thrones, Sherlock Holmes UK
Buying.........X'mas prezzies for family and friends, Party dress for myself
Making........Glam wrapping the Xmas prezzies
Loving..........the time with my kids, I was so busy before with my corporate job stressing about other people's problems that it took away from my home life. Now I get to hear their school stories first hand and discovering that both my girls have a great sense of humor!
Wanting........this ice to melt away, the ice storm caused such havoc leaving some of my dear friends without power over Christmas day

Bella has arrived

My assistants and  our dog Coach

After much searching for a dress form, the husband (who can find just about anything online) found this place called 'Recycled Displays' in Toronto and we found 'BELLA' there.

Instead of a dress form I opted for a mannequin as it has the benefit of arms and legs. Now this place Recylced Displays was a treasure trove - and mad thrifters that we are - we went around the whole warehouse just ogling. They had tons of mannequins (of all kinds - silver ones, gold ones, embroidered ones), dress forms, hanging forms, etc etc.......turns out they also rent out props to TV series like Rookie Blue, Sherlock Holmes, etc - they had mad stuff! mad stuff I say! vintage typewriters, cash tellers with those beautiful raised keys, vintage clothing, giant horses, vintage mini cars, doctors carry cases (now this I wanted to steal shhhhhhhhh), shelf upon shelf of beautiful things lost in the mess of that warehouse - I'm sure they have an inventory system but what a thrill it would be to rummage through it all! miles and miles of joy...............

So back to topic - yes I finally got my mannequin and my daughters named her 'Bella' aptly (who isn't a Twilight fan now!?) and I got to work with trying out the clothes and camera work....will post more pics of the warehouse later tonight!

Golden Globes 2012 Favorite dress

Evan Rachel Wood
Golden Globes 2012
So many award shows to keep up with.............my favorite dress from the Golden Globes was this Gucci gown worn by Evan Rachel Wood (she's only 24 yrs eh!?) it was a beautiful creation that started of with sequins, graduated into fish scales and then cascaded into feathers. Such a myriad of beautiful colors - that green, black, grey metallic mix...............ethereal......just ethereal.

Living a Gypsy Life

via Style of a Fashionista blog

love the Top Hat

I have always related to Gypsies............maybe it comes from living in 5 countries, moving in and out of 13 homes, travelled over 31 countries..........and these are just the ones I remember.

Sometimes I find myself sitting at my workstation saying ``I want to go home``........and I always wonder why I am saying it. Anyhoo let`s hope Canada is our last stop as we love it here!

Some pics of Kate at her best !!

Welcome to Sparrow Lyn

Thank you for browsing SPARROW LYN, a label that features Bohemian clothes and jewellery with a dash of Rock n Roll.

This blog will chornicle my journey of setting up Sparrow Lyn. During my university years I was also studying fashion design and even produced a summer collection for a local fashion show. After graduating I then moved to Dubai and joined the corporate world. The money was good and I kept moving up the corporate ladder which led to my fashion designing dream taking a backseat. After 18 years of the corporate life I decided in September 2010 to go back to being creative. Joined an art school to study Fine Art and started designing again.

Sparrow Lyn is my way of expressing my fashion dreams. I will be stocking items that are a true reflection of my Bohemian Rocker self. I like mixing masculine and feminine pieces, something pretty with something tough and thats where the mix of BOHEMIAN and ROCKER comes from.

I have the support of my husband, 2 beautiful daughters and one crazy pug to keep me sane on this journey. Do join us on this new chapter of our future.
